What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of medical conditions. It is based on the principle that the well-being of an individual depends on the skeleton, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues functioning smoothly together. Osteopathy aims to treat the root cause of the problem, rather than the secondary effects. Spinal alignment and correct posture are paramount to preventing injury and relieving pain.

Treatment is hands on and can include a wide range of techniques, for instance manual therapy, soft tissue massage, muscle energy techniques, joint articulations, and joint manipulations. Home exercises may also be given for the patient to continue the work done within the session.

An Osteopath can treat anyone including, sports people, children, pregnant women, elderly patients, and people suffering from acute or chronic pain. Osteopaths are experts in the treatment of spinal conditions and can treat a wide range of conditions concerning all the joints throughout the body. Osteopaths can assess and treat any soft tissue condition affecting the muscles, ligament, or tendons. Osteopaths can also treat headaches (migraines, cervicogenic headaches & dizziness).
