What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of medical conditions. It is based on the principle that the well-being of an individual depends on the skeleton, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues functioning smoothly together. Osteopathy aims to treat the root cause of the problem, rather than the secondary effects. Spinal alignment and correct posture are paramount to preventing injury and relieving pain.

Treatment is hands on and can include a wide range of techniques, for instance manual therapy, soft tissue massage, muscle energy techniques, joint articulations, and joint manipulations. Home exercises may also be given for the patient to continue the work done within the session.

Treatment includes manual therapy, soft tissue massage, muscle energy techniques, joint articulations and joint manipulations, along with a home rehab program. An Osteopath can treat anyone including, sports people, children, pregnant women, babies (Cranial Osteopathy) and elderly patients.

Cranial Osteopath

Cranial Osteopathy is a very gentle and safe form of osteopathy which uses manual techniques to make subtle and profound changes for your baby. It is non-invasive and aims to re-balance systems of the body to enable them to work effectively There are small fluctuations of movement within the body called involuntary motion, by placing their hands on a child’s body a Cranial Osteopath can feel a gentle expansion and contraction of all the tissues. When these motions are disturbed, for instance during the process of childbirth, babies can become irritable, unhappy, have difficulty feeding and sleeping etc. The aim of this technique is to help the baby to feel more comfortable and therefore, able to thrive.
